Situated in the far north of the sub-continent, over 3500 metres (11,500 feet) up on the high plateau, Ladakh, often referred to as ‘little Tibet’ is geographically, anthropologically and culturally part of Tibet. However, its remoteness and sheer inaccessibility have meant that it was to have a very different history to the rest of the high plateau. Today it contains one of the most intact Tantric Buddhist societies left on earth.

You will be awe-struck by the dramatic landscapes of Ladakh, which comprises 45,000 sqkms of high altitude desert, dominated by rugged snow capped mountains and deep turquoise lakes.

As you walk, river raft and are driven through this starkly beautiful land, you will traverse fast flowing rivers often with strands of green, running oasis-like along side, visiting Buddhist monasteries en route.

As you reach your village house each night, you will see the vernacular architecture of the area, and then spend the evening relaxing and gaining an insight to an unchanged rural way of life in the homes of the Ladakhi people.
