USEFUL INFORMATION

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you offer private escorted trips?
Yes. All our journeys are private departures which are led by your own lead guide and full support staff. All planned as per dates to suit you (availability and season allowing).
  • What level of walking activity can I expect on a Shakti holiday?
Each itinerary is fully tailor-made to your preferred level - from gentle village strolls to more strenuous hikes across mountain ridges. Your private guide will discuss distances, elevation gain and daily durations to ensure the walks suit your fitness and interests.
  • What kind of walking (or cycling) can I expect?
While walking is our principal activity, some itineraries offer optional cycling on quiet tracks (in Ladakh only). Distances and terrain vary daily, but every walk is carefully planned with rest stops, picnic lunches and cultural visits.
  • What kind of people go on Shakti trips?
Shakti holidays attract independent, open-minded travellers - couples, families, single travelers or small groups - seeking authentic cultural immersion, off-the-beaten-track adventure and the comforts of luxury accommodation.
  • Will I have time to see the outstanding features on the route?
Absolutely. Your guide will pace each day so you can savour historic temples, panoramic viewpoints and local villages in unhurried fashion - often lingering for photography, local interaction or a tea break.
  • What if I want to extend my trip?
Extensions are straightforward - whether adding extra nights at a lodge, exploring nearby regions or organising a customised add-on. Just let us know your preferences.
  • Will I have time to relax and enjoy the eco-lodge facilities?
Yes. Every schedule builds in leisure time at our solar-powered village houses and Prana lodge. You can curl up with a book, soak up the mountain views or your own yoga or cookery lesson.
  • What sort of food can I expect?
You’ll enjoy freshly prepared picnic hampers on the trails and seasonal menus in the evenings, featuring regional Indian cuisines including local Kumaoni, Sikkimese or Ladakhi dishes alongside international favourites, all created by your private chef.
  • What if I have a dietary restriction or allergy?
We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other dietary requirements. Simply let us know in advance, and your chef and guides will ensure every meal is safe, varied and delicious.
  • What sort of guiding and information can I expect?
All journeys include a dedicated English-speaking guide (and support guides on village walks) who provide expert commentary on local culture, history, flora and fauna, ensuring a deeply enriching experience.
  • Do you have a packing checklist?
Yes. We’ll send a comprehensive packing list covering clothing layers, sturdy walking boots, sun and rain protection, a refillable water bottle, personal medications and any specialist kit.
  • Do I need to bring a mobile phone?
It’s useful, though signal can be intermittent. We recommend downloading offline maps and sharing emergency contacts before you depart. Coverage varies; some villages have patchy service. Satellite communication is strictly illegal in India and must not be used or even carried.
  • How can people get in touch with me in case of an emergency?
We provide a 24-hour emergency helpline number (India-based), and you can share this with family and friends before you travel.
  • Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance (including emergency evacuation) is mandatory for all guests.
  • Where can I find information about visa and vaccination requirements?
Detailed guidelines are included in your pre-departure pack, and our Travel Team is always on hand to assist with the latest official advisories.
  • Can children go on Shakti holidays?
Children aged 8 and above are welcome on most village walks; younger guests can be accommodated on gentler itineraries - please discuss specific age requirements with our team
