OVERVIEW

Shakti Sikkim

from October through to the end of April

Arriving in the former hermit kingdom of Sikkim, closed to outsiders till last century and still permit-protected by the Indian government, feels like finding Shangri-La. Sparsely populated and one of India’s smallest states, Sikkim is prized for its biodiversity and the majesty of its mountains but the true highlight of our village walks is the friendly, genuine interactions with the local people.

We have partnered with Lepcha, Nepali and Bhutia families so that guests stay right in the heart of their communities and witness the daily rhythms of their lives as they tend to flower gardens and fields, attend schools and temples. If we come across any celebrations or festivities during the walks, our guides will make sure you get a ringside seat.

Where Majesty Meets Tranquility

Bordered by Bhutan, Tibet and Nepal, Sikkim’s terrain ranges from subtropical jungle to the 8586-metre Kanchenjunga, Earth’s third tallest mountain which, during the clear winter days of October-December, is a constant presence and reward.

“We would like to express our deep appreciation for the care and professionalism that welcomed us at Sikkim...

The team was unsurpassable and, together with the scenery and places we visited, turned out into a lifetime experience. A special word to our guide, who was an extraordinary companion and taught us a lot. He is knowledgeable about a large number of subjects and generally cultivated, which adds interest to conversation. His curiosity about the world and good mood brought us the most enjoyable walks, always minding a balanced presence that was never imposed.”

Northern India Nestled in the northern reaches of the sub-continent, at an altitude exceeding 3,500 meters (11,500 feet) on a high plateau, Ladakh is frequently likened to 'little Tibet'. This remote terrain shielded Ladakh from the upheavals of the Chinese Cultural Revolution, preserving one of the world's most intact Tantric Buddhist societies. Here, a high-altitude desert landscape unfolds, ruled by formidable snow-capped peaks and crystalline turquoise lakes, making Ladakh Himalayas an unrivaled gem of picturesque beauty on our planet.
